A's Announce Schwagel as New Manager

MARSHALL, Minn. - The Marshall Baseball Association (MBA) is excited to announce the hiring of Ryan Schwagel as manager of the Marshall A's. Schwagel brings a wealth of baseball knowledge to the table and is tasked with helping lead the A's back to prominence.

Schwagel has played a total of twelve amateur baseball seasons, eight with the Dumont Saints and the last four with the Pipestone A's. He was a part of three state tournament teams with the Dumont Saints, including one Final 16 appearance.

The A's 2018 roster was relatively young in their first season in Class C and that inexperience will be among Schwagel's top challenges.

"When the MBA board set out to hire our next manager, we were looking for someone with plenty of amateur baseball experience in the area. With the changes over the past year with the A's reclassification, we're excited to have a manager that has been active in Class C baseball his entire career." MBA President Kelly Loft said. "Ryan understands the importance of continuing to have our local players, both young and veterans, to play for the A's and help build a team that Marshall can continue to be proud of."

"My short term goals for the A's include ending next season with a .500 record or better in the Corn Belt League and making a good run at playoffs," Schwagel said.

Loft added, "The Corn Belt League is one of the best leagues in the state and the Marshall A's look forward to helping the league continue its strong tradition of play."

"Long term goals," Schwagel continued, "would be helping the A's continue to recruit strong athletes that are great leaders on and off the field. I also hope to consistently make us one of the top teams in the league and to hopefully make some appearances in the state tournament."

Schwagel understands the importance of local support, "The Marshall A's has been fortunate to have a lot of community support over the years, both as sponsors of the team and fans. Community buy-in is essential for an amateur team to thrive, especially in a small community. Without business sponsors and the fans, there is no team."

Schwagel grew up in Dumont, Minnesota and graduated from Wheaton Area High School in 2008. He came to Marshall in 2008 to attend SMSU and has been in the area ever since. He currently works at Southwest Pro Painting and has been with them for about four years. He recently married his wife, Ally, in August 2018 and just purchased their first home in the Marshall community.

"I am excited to take on the role as A's manager and I look forward to working with current and prospective players to build a team the community can continue to be proud of," Schwagel said.
